Will my sofa fit?
Type your room and sofa sizes and see the sofa in a 3D room, with the walking space it leaves.

Yes, it fits.
A 2.2 m sofa on your 4 m wall leaves 90 cm on each side and 2.55 m of walking space in front. There's room for a coffee table too.

The short answer
A sofa fits when it sits on the wall with room to spare and still leaves a clear path in front of it. Two numbers decide that: the wall it goes against has to be wider than the sofa, and the room has to be deep enough for the sofa plus a walkway.
The rule of thumb most interior designers use: keep about 90 cm (3 ft) for a main walkway, and about 45 cm (18 in) between the sofa and a coffee table. 60 cm (2 ft) is a squeeze you can live with in a hallway, not in front of the sofa you sit on every day. This calculator does that arithmetic and shows the result in a 3D room, so you can judge the proportions and not only the numbers.
How to use it
- 1
Measure the room
Measure the wall the sofa will stand against, and how far it is from that wall to the one opposite.
- 2
Type the sofa's size
Use the outer width (arm to arm) and depth from the product page, or pick a typical two-seat, three-seat or corner sofa.
- 3
Read the answer, then look
The sentence tells you whether it fits and what's left over. The room shows it. Switch to the top view to check the gaps, and to feet and inches if you prefer.
Questions
How much space should I leave in front of a sofa?
About 90 cm (3 ft) if people walk past it, which is the usual case in a living room. Between the sofa and a coffee table, 45 cm (18 in) is comfortable: close enough to reach a cup, far enough to get up. Less than 60 cm (2 ft) in front of the sofa stops being a walkway.
How wide is a typical sofa?
Two-seaters are commonly around 150 to 180 cm (5 to 6 ft) wide; three-seaters around 200 to 240 cm (6½ to 8 ft); corner sofas from about 250 cm (8 ft) with a chaise of 150 cm (5 ft) or more. Always use the product page's outer size, arm to arm: the seat width is smaller.
Can a sofa go under a window?
Usually, yes. Most sofa backs are 80 to 95 cm high, so the sofa sits below a sill of about 90 cm. Check the sill height on your wall and leave the window free to open. The 3D room here puts the sofa under a window so you can see how that looks.
What about a corner sofa?
Pick Corner, or type its full size. The width goes along the wall and the depth is the chaise, so the walkway is measured from the end of the chaise. The corner is shown on the right.
Will it fit through the door?
That's a different question, and a tool for it is on the way. The quick check: a sofa goes through a door when its depth or its height (whichever is smaller) is less than the door's clear width, with a few centimetres to spare for the turn.
Can I check it in my actual floor plan?
Yes. Upload your floor plan and UploadFloorplan turns it into a 3D room with all its walls, doors and windows. Then drag the sofa in, try the window wall, try the other wall, and see what fits. A free account is enough.
Now try it in your real room
Upload your floor plan and UploadFloorplan turns it into a 3D room with its walls, doors and windows. Drag the furniture in and see what fits where.
